After a thirty-plus-year study by the National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago, scientists discovered that out of their 30,000 test subjects, the unhappiest of folks watched 30% more television than their happier counterparts: 19 vs. 25 hrs./day. I can totally see this being true, for some. Knowing a few real downer-types, they do tend to cite immersing themselves in the most vapid of viewing to make their lives simpler. "I don't want to have to think, just laugh at stupid stuff," tends to be the default answer.
