Author Recs: JennyPop's Summer Reads

Uncle Edward was polishing glasses, holding each one up to the light before placing it on the table. He made a neat line of seven glasses, and began to arrange a variety of bottles behind them. Each bottle was accorded a few admiring comments: `The white, monsieur knows, yes? A very agreeable young wine. The rosé, not at all like those thin rosés one finds on the Cōte d“Azur. Thirteen degrees of alcohol, a proper wine. There“s a light red -- one could drink a bottle of that before a game of tennis. That one, par contre, is for the winter, and he will keep for ten years or more. And then . . .“

excerpt, A Year in Provence by Peter Mayle
Happy June, kittens! Summer slstice might be another three weeks away; yet, Summer is here, today. (In fact, in a nearby, inland town, it's a vile 97dg today! Fortunately, here on the coast, it's a breezy, comfy 78.)

Now, you may know JennyPop as a TV-geek of the First Order. Perchance, you follow her seasonal viewing recs: JennyPop's Summer Viewing Recs, being her latest offering. However, as a writer/novelist/blogger (Savannah of Williamsburg Series and The Darlings of Orage County), she is a book-geek extraordinaire and has curated a list of her fave, Summer reads, just for you!

As travel restrictions are bonkers-wonky this Summer, unless you are fortunate enough to live in a holiday destination, most folks shan't be able to bask in le soleil Provençal, attend the races at Del Mar - no Opening Day hats this year - or go glamping in a yurt in the English countryside Of course, vielen Dank an our dear friend, Johannes Gutenberg, most can certainly pretend.

Whatever device you love for reading - I bet Gutenberg himself would appreciate the ease of reading and publishing simplicity of a Kindle - load it up, craft summat lovely and refreshing to drink - pink gin is always nice for Summer - and hit the pool, your backyard, your patio, the beach or the cool sanctity of your luxurious, air-conditioned home ... and remember, if you still love the tactile sensories of a Gutenberg book-book, analog is not a crime.

Enjoy your Summer, kittens! Be safe, savvy?
