The most lovely Valentines of all: homemade, handmade, heartmade, doggy Valentines, lovingly-crafted by children. A few moons past, upon the passing of our dearest little Pomeranian, Ichabod Wolfgang Crane Devore - the fouffy inspiration for Herr Ichabod DenVries in the Savannah of Williamsburg Series of books - the sweetest Savannah of Williamsburg readers, Ms. Katleen Fitzpatrick's fourth-grade class at Loma Vista Elementary School in Tustin, California, created some heart-melting, heartbreaking condolence/Valentine cards. It took a few days to be able to open the cards and read them. Once opened, oh, how the tears and smiles did flow.
Years later, upon re-reading, as one does with old Valentines, especially dog Valentines, the tears, smiles and laughter, flowed again. Thank you, Ms. Fitzpatrick's 4th grade class! Ichabod will always remember you.
Please, enjoy just a few of the creations Ichabod, Mr. Devore and I shall forever cherish. (Note: the first drawing is not one of the children's drawings. It is a professional portrait, in the 18thC. style, commissioned by Mr. Devore as a Christmas present for our JennyPop, from Virginia artist Emily Christoff. It seemed apropos to highlight it here, along with all the masterpieces.)
