Look at My Michele: Remembering a Friend's Father

For those of you whom follow me regularly, especially in Poland, Germany and Norway lately (odd, but awesome ... Thank you!), you know well how I love the photographs. Apropos to this post ... I wish I had some photographs of him, for her. I hope the following suffices as a verbal pictorial.

He was entrusted with my safety, my well-being, my entertainment.

Earthquake in the night? Everybody on the front porch, quick! Dad's in charge!

When I was on Royal Crest, he was my Dad Away From Dad.

Slumber parties, birthday parties, Bad Girls dance routine rehearsal, Snoopy Western Town.

Tales of a poor boy from Indonesia and too many chickens to count. "Dad, please!", Michele always said.

Dad's Limo Service: always ready with a tip of the hat, a dorky joke and a 100-watt smile.

Take us to the movies, a performance, The Vineyard, Moonlight Beach, The Paper Doll, Licorice Pizza!

No, we need more than that. Yes, another twenty will do.

Pick us up, we're hungry and bored and ready to come home.

Take-out, pizza, noodle soup I was too nervous to eat, midnight snacks, Morton's jelly donuts, yum!

First the old Volvo, then the red Porsche, then the zippy 300ZX.

Slow down, speed up, hit the deck, Mon Dieu! Help meee! Wheeeee!

My own Daddy felt the sportscar need, so did he ... poor G, now so do I.

Our Pops were friends because we were friends. That's what Pops do.

Pops drive us hither and thither, buy us this and that, know we do no wrong.

Pops are proud fellows and hers was their King.

Michele C. Lim, M.D., a.k.a.Meeeechele, and Moi ... mit meinen kleinen, schwarzen Hunden!

"Look at my Michele," he said with an elbow and a grin as she walked out the door for school one morning.

"Look at my Michele," he said with an elbow and a beaming smile as she walked at UCLA, a new med school grad.

"Look at my Michele," he said with an elbow and a gold bracelet as she walked through the hotel, turning thirty in Beverly Hills.

"Look at my Michele," he said with an elbow and a tear as she walked down the aisle toward her Christopher.

Look at how proud he was of her, look at how much they adored each other.

"Michele, ma belle," he sang poorly, sweetly with a laugh.

Look at Michele and her Daddy.

What a very lucky friend I was to know him.

What a very lucky little girl she was to be his Daddy's Girl.

In memoriam, Mr. Peng Ken Lim
